Harrison's Packaging

Harrison's Packaging have been supplying the North West with packaging since 1989, and had no hesitation in choosing Site4 to provide their IT support and e-commerce support.

The orginal site, www.harrisonspkg.co.uk was launched in early 2000, as part of Harrison's plan to use e-commerce to sell into a wider market and improve accessibility and service to existing customers.

The site offers a broad range of retail and industrial packaging, and within a few months, was taking orders from all over the UK and as far afield as Finland and China.

The site designed in corporate colours allows customers to browse the catalogue contained within the site, and to make online purchases with their credit/debit card or if they have an account to pay on account.

The online shop has attracted many existing retail and industrial customers as well as new customers through offering an Aladdin's cave of 100's lines of adhesive tape, polythene, postal, protective and strapping packaging products and packaging equipment and other packaging lines.

Since it's original launch due to the high increase in enquiries received, Harrisons and Site4 have worked together to expand the website to expand the number of lines offered and to include the type of helpful details on specifications and common usages for packaging products that Harrison's customers have come to expect from a premier professional supplier.

Having started out using Actinic Catalog the site has now moved to using Actinic Business to allow the business to take full advantage of the extra functionality afforded it by the business version of Actinic's shopping cart software.

The main site has since moved to www.harrisonspackaging.co.uk, with mirror sites at (www.harrisonspkg.co.uk & www.harrisonspackaging.com) and has been given a new look and feel in 2007 and now uses Actinic Business v8.

A second online shop was opened at www.envirobag.co.uk in 2001 trading in environmental polythene products which was also given a new design in 2007 and also now uses Actinic Business v8.

Security & Merchant Account

For their online shops Harrison's Packaging chose to use Actinic's in-built encryption security for the ordering process, but there is also the added facility for sending card details separately for those customers who prefer to do so.

Site4 having developed a successful ongoing relationship with the various banks were able to assist Harrison's with their online merchant account application.

Search engine positioning made easy

On the internet marketing side Actinic offers it's online vendors a headstart on its competitors using other e-commerce software. Both Actinic Catalog and Actinic Business are built in such a way that they generate search engine friendly HTML pages which coupled with Site4's experience in gaining and maintaining top 30 search engine rankings means Harrison's Packaging can easily be found on all the major search engines and directories both under its name and many different packaging keywords.

Site4 provides Harrison's Packaging with their website hosting and unlimited email addresses as part of the e-commerce package.

Hosting Actinic Catalog and Actinic Business also require unlimited access to the CGI-bin. With some ISP's in the UK charging hundreds of pounds a day to read the Perl script, Site4 include this as standard in their e-commerce hosting package.

Business Changes

Any new business venture will only succeed if potential customers are aware of its existence. To this end Harrison's Packaging over the years have also marketed their main site, by emblazoning their vans with eye catching designs, updating their stationery, carrying out mail shots and have received several favourable reviews in regional and national newspapers.

Since the launch of the first e-commerce site Site4 and Harrison's have worked together to further promote and improve the site as well as improve IT systems in the marketing function. Using readily available technologies, marketing processes were streamlined, allowing staff to concentrate on opening and developing a new division - Enviro Polythene Products. EPP now trades alongside the original operation, with virtually no additional overheads.

Following the success of the original site, utilising e-commerce for EPP was one of Harrison's first priorities, and Site4 set about developing the new site, concentrating on environmental polythene products for waste disposal - www.envirobag.co.uk.

Harrison's Packaging continue to invest in their long-term future with advice and assistance from Site4, linking their various offices with a private computer network. Today, as a result they have a modern computer system and streamlined back office business processes to meet the changing demands of their business and are well placed for further expansion into new markets.
