| With vDHCP you no longer have to walk
around to individual machines in your network to assign IP addresses,
vDHCP takes away the leg work by allowing you to assign IP address
automatically on client computer's from a central point, from an
address range you have chosen. You don't have to set a specific
IP address on the computer running the vDHCP but we recommend that
you choose one from the accepted range for private networks.
Like all software written by Paul Smith Computer Services vDHCP
requires very little processing power so it can be run on a workstation
running Windows.
You can reserve fixed IP addresses for specific computers or network
print servers, so that you can run intranet or mail servers such
as VPOP3 on your network.
Installing vDHCP is a simple and quick task. vDHCP automatically
sets sensible settings by inspecting the computer which it is installed
into, minimising the setup time.
Once installed vDHCP can start running as soon the computer is
turned on, without a user having to log on. vDHCP is "set and
forget" in that once it has been set up, provided it is closed
down properly between sessions it will keep on running until you
want to make any changes.
A single vDHCP server can support as many client machines as the
TCP/IP subnet on which it is running, but it cannot
support multiple subnets. If you have multiple subnets on your network
all is not lost; simply install a copy of vDHCP on one computer
in each subnet. |
